Economists Warn Coronavirus Could Claim 37 Million Jobs

As COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to spread throughout the United States and government officials mandate lockdowns and sheltering in place, experts are predicting mounting job losses. Approximately 37 million workers are vulnerable, with those working in restaurants and retail most at risk. Around the country, there has already been a spike in applications for unemployment benefits, and the numbers are expected to rise in coming days.
