Hertz Under Fire After Huge Executive Bonuses Ahead of Bankruptcy Filing

Car rental company Hertz paid out more than $16 million in bonuses to top executives just weeks before filing for bankruptcy. At the time of the bonuses, Hertz had already laid off thousands of employees. So-called “retention bonuses” are designed to maintain senior leadership amid bankruptcy proceedings, but they bring up questions about proper financial management in a fiscal crisis.
