JC Penney has become the latest retailer to succumb to financial troubles, announcing it will file for bankruptcy after 118 years in business. Prior to the current economic climate, the company was already struggling after years of executive instability, poor financial decisions and damaging market trends. While the company plans to reorganize and remain open, it is unclear how many of its 846 brick and mortar stores will survive.
