U.S. Unemployment Claims Reach 22 Million

In just four weeks’ time, 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits as the coronavirus continues to rout the world economy. This number accounts for more than 13 percent of the labor market. Non-essential businesses remain shuttered and the number of layoffs continues to grow in what is now being called the most damaging recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
